Photo Shoot

Hi Everyone

We are getting to the end of the semi final stage, just a quick update on the weekends activities. I met a couple of the semi finalist a little closer over the weekend at the photo shoot, I have really been  impressed with a couple of the guys,  nice down to earth, REAL guys. When you get to know the other competitors you understand why this year’s field is so strong. The photo shoot was a lot of fun and I am very curious to see what the photos are going to look like. Thumbs up to Pieter Cornelius who was taking the photo’s, if the IT doesn’t come off, you can definitely fall back on photography J

Chrysalis Foundation Sponsorships

In the current economic situation we as South Africans are finding ourselves it is not an easy decision to give away money, which is the reason why it is just a beautiful site to see people giving money to charities. I know each of my sponsors personally and not one of the sponsors has money to throw around, but they all wanted to help this great cause we as Mr South Africa semi finalists are supporting.

Here is a little bit more information about the companies that supported me and The Chrysalis Foundation through the competition.

Chrysalis Foundation Hawaiian Fund Raiser

One of the main responsibilities of the Mr South Africa semi finalist is to host a fund raising event for the Chrysalis foundation, on Saturday 13 November I hosted my fund raising event. I decided that I wanted to get my close friends involved with the Mr South Africa competition and also with the Chrysalis Foundation.

If I win Mr South Africa my friends will be the people I depend on to help me make a success, so I decided to do something fun and get them involved with the event, I made the theme of the party Hawaiian, there was a big screen for the Springboks rugby game, and we were lucky enough to get a few prizes sponsored for the party.
There was a R50 cover charge and we sold tickets for a lucky draw, the guests could also guess the outcome of the game and the winner recieved a cash prize, everyone had a lot of fun and the most important thing was that we made about R 3000 for the Chrysalis Foundation.

I would like to thank all my friends and family who made this event possible, you are the people who are making the difference in the end, BIG THANKS.

My baby girls first birthday party. As the Mr South Africa competition goes on I am learning more and more every day about the responsibilities that this title will bring into my life if I win, I had to miss a part of my girls birthday party to attend the breakfast show, I realised over the weekend that being Mr South Africa means putting everything else second. Mr South Africa will have to be first priority every day of the year for as long as I have the title. I also realised that I’m willing to make that sacrifice and am getting more motivated every day!

1st Media Coverage

I got really lucky this week, while in Cape Town I received a call from Malindi Strydom, she is a producer at TOP TV.  I got the invitation to join them on their morning show, Na SONOP.
I joined them on Saturday morning in Heidelberg for the show and I must admit I was really scared; I have never done anything like this before.  Luckily everyone was really friendly and made me feel right at home, we had a nice chat about the Mr South Africa competition and what it entails. The show is being aired on the 27th November so if you have TOP TV please makes sure to catch the show!!

Mr South Africa 2011 Gauteng Judging session

Hi Everyone

What an excellent day!! Today was the Gauteng judging session, I met a lot of the semi-finalists and I must say most of the guys are really cool. There are quite a wide spectrum of personalities entered into this competition,  it was nice to hear all the different ideas the semi-finalists have about charity and what they think the qualities of Mr South Africa should be.

I was really nervous about the interview, I don’t think anyone really knew what to expect, when I saw the current Mr South Africa Denver Burns it was a big wakeup call to what this competition is really about, he has a real presence about him, he really looks like a great ambassador for South Africa and from what I heard from the people who work with him, he has really done a great deal for the Mr South Africa title. Denver is also an Iron Man and if I didn’t know anything else about him that would be enough to know what kind of a person he is.

In the end the judging wasn’t that stressful J and I think all and all it went well.

New Hearts Festival

Hi everyone

I had quite the eventful Saturday; started the morning with a 10 km fun run n Irene, and then I had to get ready for the New Hearts festival. The festival had a slow start but from about 12 o’clock more people started showing up, my fun started early as the MC for the event pulled me onto stage to market myself.
I had to ask all the ladies to vote on the sms lines, it was a funny feeling to get up on stage to tell the people about Mr South Africa but I am very glad I did it, because people has a very wrong idea about Mr South Africa, for some reason everyone think it is a modelling competition.
If I win Mr South Africa I would like to change that perception of this competition, although I think looks does play a role to be chosen as the winner, charity and community uplifment has played a much bigger role thus far and that is how I think the public should see this competition.
At the festival I did my part at the festival by volunteering my services, we were divided into groups and each group had a 2 hour slot to help out. The Festival was n HUGE success, there were lots of fun events and I am confident that our church has made a big leap financially to establish our own home for the elderly.
The crowds really enjoyed Bobby van Jaarsveld as he was the main celebrity to attend the festival and I must say he is a real entertainer, I think most of the ladies only attended the event to see him J at least there was some nice stuff for the guys as well, 4 x 4 trails, Paintball and Off road bikes doing some BIG jumps.
All and all an awesome day and it just make it that much better that all the proceeds are going to be used for a good cause.

Chrysalis Foundation

Hi

I met with Rhona Scheppel today, the Executive Director for the Chrysalis foundation, she was really great and I love meeting people like Rhona. We didn’t have a very long meeting but I could see her sincerity for Chrysalis, her foundation is making real changes is young ladies lives.
I entered Mr South Africa because I was looking for a place where I could really make a difference in someone’s life and I think Chrysalis is going to be the place where I can achieve this goal.
I just want to thank Rhona for taking the time to meet with me today and I hope I can assist with your great cause.

Mmotla Village “Word Alive Church” Soshanguve

Hi Everyone
Today I did something I have never done before, I attended a bodybuilding competition. What an amazing event, however the competition was for amateurs the competitors were very professional and the guys looked unbelievable.
In  our big fancy gyms in the suburbs you see all these guys with their expensive supplements, It really surprised me to see these athletes in such unbelievable shape, they don’t train at gymnasiums and use no supplements to help them; with them it is just pure hard work and 110% dedication. I went to this event to help out but I have learned so much from these athletes I feel privileged to see them compete.
A fellow Mr South Africa semi finalist Pieter de Klerk helped to organize an amazing event in this township in Soshanguve please follow his blog on http://pieterdk.blogspot.com/  for the complete story.
I would like to say a BIG well done to you Pieter!!! I feel honoured to know people like you and hope we can do this again in the future.
