New Hearts Festival

Hi everyone

I had quite the eventful Saturday; started the morning with a 10 km fun run n Irene, and then I had to get ready for the New Hearts festival. The festival had a slow start but from about 12 o’clock more people started showing up, my fun started early as the MC for the event pulled me onto stage to market myself.
I had to ask all the ladies to vote on the sms lines, it was a funny feeling to get up on stage to tell the people about Mr South Africa but I am very glad I did it, because people has a very wrong idea about Mr South Africa, for some reason everyone think it is a modelling competition.
If I win Mr South Africa I would like to change that perception of this competition, although I think looks does play a role to be chosen as the winner, charity and community uplifment has played a much bigger role thus far and that is how I think the public should see this competition.
At the festival I did my part at the festival by volunteering my services, we were divided into groups and each group had a 2 hour slot to help out. The Festival was n HUGE success, there were lots of fun events and I am confident that our church has made a big leap financially to establish our own home for the elderly.
The crowds really enjoyed Bobby van Jaarsveld as he was the main celebrity to attend the festival and I must say he is a real entertainer, I think most of the ladies only attended the event to see him J at least there was some nice stuff for the guys as well, 4 x 4 trails, Paintball and Off road bikes doing some BIG jumps.
All and all an awesome day and it just make it that much better that all the proceeds are going to be used for a good cause.

Chrysalis Foundation

Hi

I met with Rhona Scheppel today, the Executive Director for the Chrysalis foundation, she was really great and I love meeting people like Rhona. We didn’t have a very long meeting but I could see her sincerity for Chrysalis, her foundation is making real changes is young ladies lives.
I entered Mr South Africa because I was looking for a place where I could really make a difference in someone’s life and I think Chrysalis is going to be the place where I can achieve this goal.
I just want to thank Rhona for taking the time to meet with me today and I hope I can assist with your great cause.

Mmotla Village “Word Alive Church” Soshanguve

Hi Everyone
Today I did something I have never done before, I attended a bodybuilding competition. What an amazing event, however the competition was for amateurs the competitors were very professional and the guys looked unbelievable.
In  our big fancy gyms in the suburbs you see all these guys with their expensive supplements, It really surprised me to see these athletes in such unbelievable shape, they don’t train at gymnasiums and use no supplements to help them; with them it is just pure hard work and 110% dedication. I went to this event to help out but I have learned so much from these athletes I feel privileged to see them compete.
A fellow Mr South Africa semi finalist Pieter de Klerk helped to organize an amazing event in this township in Soshanguve please follow his blog on http://pieterdk.blogspot.com/  for the complete story.
I would like to say a BIG well done to you Pieter!!! I feel honoured to know people like you and hope we can do this again in the future.

Hi
This morning while I was on my way to work I notice a man walking his son to school; it was obvious that the man does not have a lot of money  his son did not even have shoes on,  I also noticed a couple of guys playing golf eight ‘o clock on a Tuesday morning, sounds nice right?
Well the funny thing was that the poor man and his son was laughing and playing and it didn’t look like they had a problem in the world and the people playing golf looks really bored and unhappy. I don’t want to generalise but it is amazing how people with big homes and fancy cars can feel sorry for themselves and people who do not have anything can be friendly and passionate about life.
I was thinking that a simple smile really goes a long way, the man and his boy made my day because of a smile, I want to ask everyone to try and give one BIG smile to someone else tomorrow and you can be guaranteed to get one right back at you.

Contenders ARE YOU READY!!

Hi Everyone!!
The Mr South Africa 2011 is in full swing; it was with a very BIG bang that I realised yesterday what exactly is expected from the judges, and what it would probably entitle to carry the title of Mr South Africa.
To everyone who doesn’t know what Mr South Africa is about, all the semi-finalists have to raise funds for the official Mr South Africa charity, you can read more about the charity at http://www.chrysalisfoundation.co.za/.  I will be organising a fund raising event for this charity, if there is anyone who would like to assist with the fund raiser please feel free to contact me, also as semi-finalists we are expected to do community work and market ourselves to get media coverage for our events, these are just some of the tasks which the top 50 will have to try and accomplish before end of November 2010.
Well, I have been thinking nonstop for the last 24 hours what I would like to do to make a difference!! This morning at the gym I was listening to a song from Linkin Park “What I've Done” and I realised that it doesn’t matter how big or small the changes are that you are trying to make, what matters is that you take action and do something, lots of people talk about making a difference, there is however a very small group who actually take action.

The LEAD SA initiative http://www.leadsa.co.za/ has really been something great, this gives ordinary people the chance to make a difference by changing something small in their own lives and if many people make small changes the end result is going to be enormous, bigger than what any one person can achieve.
My goal in the race for Mr South Africa 2011 will be to take action; get involved; and make a difference!!
I really love my country and think it is one of the most beautiful places in the world; sadly very few people take the time to see what this country holds in store.  I am very lucky because I have to travel a lot to do my work, for as long as I am a Mr South Africa contender I would like to show the people of South Africa the beauty of our great country.
Today I visited Groblersdal; the picture was taken at Loskop Dam.
